You can see from the below graph that we have had major flooding here in our little town of Cedar Rapids we’ve made all the national news. Just to let everybody know we have had no problems. The only thing that we have to do is conserve water due to the fact that all the city wells are flooded out. Due to this restriction we are not allowed to do laundry take showers or baths or wash our dishes. We do feel like we are on a island because all major highways out of Iowa are flooded and closed.

I’m going to add in what Adam said in the card that he gave to me for Mother’s Day. He made this at school and the card included a picure of him with a small bouquet of fake flowers (and he’s got that typical cheesy kid grin on his face). “Dear Mom, I will love you forever, and forever you will be. The most wonderful mother. You mean everything to me. I though of buying you flowers in the usual way, but I knew you would prefer a FOREVER bouquet. Love, Yes, that’s a direct quote…spelling and grammar and all. I got a nice little catch in my throught when I read that one. What mom wouldn’t? Mother’s Day 2008My mother’s name is Tina. She is 25 years old. I think she weighs 21 pounds. Something I enjoy doing with my mother is watching TV. Her favorite thing to do by herself is on the computer. I think the best food she cooks is chicken and macaroni and cheese. I don’t like to eat hot dogs and hamburgers. Her favorite TV show is dancing with the stars. I’d rather watch Justice league. Her favorite color is pink. Mine is brown. The funniest thing I have seen my mother do or say is scare me like a bug. If I could give her anything it would be flowers and shirts. I think she’s the greatest and I love her dearly. Love, Adam
Sesame Street - Which Comes First(The Chicken Or The Egg)? Okay. Blogging is obviously NOT my strong suit but I’ve got a couple of stories that Jim hasn’t really been privy to since they happened either when I was around or at a place that I’ve been. So last week, it being Administrative Appreciation Week (which a fellow administrative assistant friend of mine calls the “annual blow smoke up your @$$” week. HA!), I attended an event at Kirkwood Community College. The speaker was very inspiring and very good. She told a story about how certain people always seem to know when we are down and they help bring us up. She told us how she had been talking on the phone with her mother in Indiana and her mother sensed that she did need a laugh that day (as most mothers can sense). So she talked about their church’s children’s sermon that morning. The minister invited all the children down, as they always do, and several children sat down with the minster. The topic was Noah and how did the children think that Noah and his family ate while they were floating on the water for 40 days? Did the children think that Noah did any fishing? One child was extremely concerned about that particular question and promptly blurted out, “Oh, no, pastor. Noah couldn’t have done any fishing. He only had two worms!” This brings to mind a story on Adam when he was about four. He would go down for the children’s sermons at our church during the summer months. The topic for this particular story was Nicodemus and how does a man get into heaven. So Adam raises his hand and Jane, bless her heart, puts the mic in front of him and he says, in pure 4 year old logic, “You have to have a car or a van. Everyone can go in our van!” And I’m sitting there thinking, “Only if everyone at the 11:00 service at St. Mark’s is no bigger than my pinky can they all fit in our van to go to heaven.” (LOL) My last story also involves Adam and it is a pure sign of how technological we have become as a society. I took Adam with me to church this past Sunday so that he could go to Sunday School. Since I have to be there a little early for my choir rehearsal, I usually have Adam bring a book along and I get him a donut and a drink so he has something to do while I’m tied up practicing. This week he brought along his Early Readers Bible and read it all the way into the building. When we approached the table of donuts and bagels and fruit, you could see his little seven year old mind trying to figure out how he was going to keep his place in his book, hold the plate with the donut AND carry his drink. He solved the problem by putting his thumb in the book to hold his place, handing me the book, and saying, “Here, Mommy, pause this for me.” I almost fell on the floor from laughing so hard. What with the DVDs and the DVR in our house, we can pause almost anything. Why can’t we just pause a book? (Of course, if you have books on CD, you CAN pause them.) So that’s my very first blog. I know I shifted about a bit on subjects but please be kind. |
